Local Motors Announces Phase One Winners Of The Domino’s Pizza® “Ultimate Delivery Vehicle” Challenge
$20,000 in Prize Money Awarded; Top Ten Vehicle Concepts Selected from Hundreds of Project Submissions I
Local Motors’ innovative open-source platform offers consumers an ‘insiders look’ at the design and development of the World’s First Purpose-Built Pizza Delivery Vehicle
Phoenix, Ariz. – October 19, 2012 – Local Motors announced today the winners of the first phase of the Ultimate Delivery Vehicle Challenge, sponsored by Domino’s Pizza (NYSE:DPZ). Domino’s, the recognized world leader in pizza delivery, engaged the Local Motors global community of designers, fabricators, engineers and enthusiasts to help them revolutionize pizza delivery. The Domino’s Ultimate Delivery Vehicle Challenge, powered by the Forge at LocalMotors.com, began on August 13, 2012, with a 6-week design competition.
Over the course of this first 6-week competition more than 1,500 concept files were submitted in support of 200+ project ideas. In the end, 127 concepts met all competition criteria. After an intense voting, validation and ranking period, the Local Motors community along with a review council that included representation from Domino’s and Local Motors, the top ten Finalists and ultimate competition winners were selected.
Congratulations to Anej Kostrevic (aka extreme) from Slovenia for his winning concept design, the Domino’s Pack. Second and third place awards were made to Phil Hall (aka IDXONE) from the United States for his XD2 concept, and Pierre Gimgergues (aka Piero) from France for his concept, Pizza Hero. Anej, Phil and Pierre will be awarded $10,000, $5,000 and $1,500, respectively. Designers for concepts ranked fourth through tenth will each receive $500.
Entries for the Domino’s Ultimate Delivery Vehicle Challenge were received from around the globe. The complete list of Finalists, including countries of origin, is as follows:

- 5th place: Domino’s CUBE by Vasilatos Ianis aka Vasilatos7777 from Romania
- 6th place: The Domino’s DOMINATOR by Victor Garcia aka Victor Garcia from the United States
- 7th place: PIDEQ by Marius Flitar aka FLITCH from Romania
- 8th place: Codename: DomiGO by Sasank Gopinathan aka Braunarsch from India
- 9th place: Domino’s Yummingbird by SIXTEN aka Marc Senger from the United States
- 10th place: One_ by MAUUU aka MAUUU from Italy
“This competition was really exciting for us,” said Jay Rogers, Local Motors CEO and co-founder. “It was certainly one of the most challenging we’ve held to date, and our community really rose to the challenge, responding with some incredibly innovative entries. If the quality and passion reflected in these concept designs is any indication, the subsequent phases of this challenge will lead us to a truly exception delivery vehicle design that Domino’s customers and franchisees will be excited about.”
The Packaging competition will begin October 30, 2012, and run through November 12, 2012. During this intense two-week competition period Local Motors community members will be given the opportunity to evolve the Domino’s Pack concept in order to get it closer to production reality. Complete details will be released in the competition design brief on October 30th.
After the Packaging Phase is complete, the challenge will continue on the following schedule:
- Interior: Begins November 27, 2012 and ends December 11, 2012
- Surfacing: Begins January 8, 2013 and ends January 22, 2013
- Rendering: Begins February 5, 2013 and ends February 19, 2013
Over the course of roughly 6-months, the Ultimate Delivery Vehicle Challenge will give Domino’s customers, members of the Local Motors Forge, and consumers around the world an insiders look at the vehicle design and development process, but at a pace up to 10-times faster than traditional automotive manufacturing.

To celebrate the success of this first phase of competition phase, and to share their excitement about what the future phases of the Ultimate Delivery Vehicle Challenge will reveal, Domino’s Pizza has created a short video to thank the Local Motors community.

At the conclusion of the Challenge this coming February, more than $50,000 in total prize money will have been awarded and the world will have the opportunity to see the top designs in each competition through to a functioning prototype of the Domino’s Ultimate Delivery Vehicle.
