Local Motors and Spring Cloud Co., Ltd. announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for strategic technology development, cooperation, and expansion of autonomous mobility services.

Spring Cloud, a Korea-based autonomous mobility service company, is dedicated to promoting the expansion of autonomous shuttles in Korea with various global companies. Local Motors is a ground mobility company that builds and deploys a shared, autonomous, electric vehicle, Olli.

Olli 2.0 operates on public roads in South Korea.

The two companies will work together to improve the performance and functional safety of autonomous vehicles in real-world environments. Introducing new content delivery systems into the Olli will also be a strategic focus and will allow both companies to unlock new value.

“To provide safer and superior autonomous mobility services requires a lot of data and verification. SpringCloud is working with companies with the best technology at home and abroad. Through collaboration, we intend to operate more than 1,000 autonomous shuttles in Korea in the future. Furthermore, we plan to accelerate our entry into the global market,” said Song Young-ki, Spring Cloud CEO.

“We’re excited to collaborate with a company focused on innovation in a growing market. Olli can operate in many environments and create unique experiences for riders, and this agreement will allow both companies to accelerate the AV market and technology development,” said Vikrant Aggarwal, President of Local Motors.
